Audience Research Focus Group

For our focus group discussion, we asked a few of our friends to watch 2 coming of age short films; Nosebleed and Fifteen. As a summary of the discussion of Nosebleed, it was argued that the editing and fragmented storyline made the film confusing for the audience. In addition,

the group agreed that the film needed to

be watched multiple times in order to understand the message that is being conveyed. However, in Fifteen, the message and narrative were easy to understand and easy to follow. The group liked how emotion was conveyed through the rawness of both young characters.

  • From having done this discussion, we came to the conclusion that the audience prefer a more straight forward storyline that is easy to follow, but the message behind is heartfelt and deep. In addition, we want to focus more on mise en scene and making it stand out from the rest of the film.
