SYNERGY IN MEDIA
In a media product, we talk about synergy in relation to the aspects of the product that help propel it toward a greater reception and a wider audience. A synergy campaign for a mainstream film like Lady Bird is most likely to include the main product, which is the film, a film poster and social media pages on multiple platforms.
LADYBIRD
TRAILER
Ladybird Overview
Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) is a high school senior from the "wrong side of the tracks". She longs for adventure, sophistication, and opportunity, but finds none of that in her Sacramento Catholic high school. This movie follows the title character's senior year in high school, including her first romance, her participation in the school play, and most importantly, her applying for college.
FILM POSTER
By having a film poster, it represents the film in a more visual way. The red hair is emphasised in the poster, giving a fierce personality to the film itself. The film poster also features the film's signature font. In addition, the colours on the boarder of the poster represents the colour theme in the film. This is evident in the scenes attached below or as seen in the trailer above. In the film, it features a retro colour scheme throughout, as well as the use of complementary colours. Most prominently, the main character is featured. This informs the audience that the film is female lead, as well as having a female writer and director, giving off women empowerment vibes.
SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES
As seen across all three social media pages (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram), the first thing the audience notices is the font style. This signature font is carried from the poster and across the social media pages. This links back to the synergy and branding of the film Lady Bird. In addition, the main character played by Saoirse Ronan and writer/director Greta Gerwig are both present throughout the platforms. Similarly, the colours red and beige are very prominent within the social media platforms and the film poster. The colour beige is a neutral colour, which allows the red to stand out from the background. The red connotes fierceness, power, love and adventure.
SCENES
As mentioned earlier, Lady Bird displays a retro colour scheme , using complementary colours like blue and red. The colour blue connotes confidence, loyalty, trust, and truth. These four ideas are clearly shown in the main character, as she figured out who she wants the be through her journey in school. Red connotes anger, love, excitement and heat, which is also evident throughout the film itself.
NOSEBLEED
TRAILER
SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE
In Nosebleed's social media page, it prominently features the colour red, which links back to branding within the film. The page also features pictures of the 2 main characters, as well as behind the scenes of when they were filming. In addition, they post about nominations for film festivals and awards as well. This shows the audience the success of the film, making them want to watch.
FILM POSTER
Similarly to Lady Bird, short film Nosebleed by Luna Carmoon features the colour red. This represents the love, the anger and the adventure within the film. White is also prominent throughout the campaign. This connotes innocence, purity and youth, which contradicts with the red. In addition, only two main actresses are present throughout the campaign, informing the audience of the small, female lead, cast.
