Casting is a pre-production process, in which the film producers recruit actors, actresses or entertainers to be featured in the film. Casting is a process that is not just limited to films, it may be TV programs, commercials or theatre. Casting is important as it establishes who can best portray the character and best express the message.
1. PRE AUDITIONS
Directors break down the roles and the details of the characters that the actors will have to play. The actors are further narrowed down to their looks, whether it fits with what the film is looking for, past experiences and understanding of the character.
2. FIRST AUDITIONS
Actors are to be given a part of the script where they have to act out and try their best to convey meaning in the scene they are given, this part is crucial in determining who fits the image and can portray the character well.
3. CALLBACKS
Those that have passed the first audition will be contacted again and given a scene that they will have to act out, this part will be video recorded for further evaluation and judgement with other people within the production team.
4. TESTING
This involves the actors working more closely with the production team, they are required to act out in a test shoot where casting decisions will be finalized and actors welcomed onto the actual stage of production.
When casting, we started by brainstorming a list of people we know to see who would be fit for each role.
